Track width: Typically varies with deck width. For example, a track width of 5.25 inches might fit a deck width of 7.75 to 8.0 inches.

Match Track Width to Deck Width
General rule: The width of the track generally needs to match the width of the deck of the skateboard. For example, if the deck is 8.0 inches wide, you can search for the track’s width around 8.0 inches.

Skateboard Track Features

The track of a skateboard consists of several main parts:

axle

The axle is a long pin that penetrates the hanger and attaches it to the wheel. The best fit is to align (or bring closer) both ends of the axle to the side of the skateboard. Different brands have different scales for measuring the width of the axle, but they are typically measured in millimeters or inches.

All axle nuts require a 3/8 inch wrench socket.

Hunger

The hanger is a triangular piece of metal that is the largest part of the skateboard track and supports the axle running straight through it.

King Pin

The king pin is a large bolt that fits inside the bush and secures the parts of the skate track. Recently, the number of hollow king pins (and axles) has increased because they are light in weight and do not damage strength and durability. However, remember that even solid king pins can break. When deciding between a solid or hollow king pin, determine if you need a lighter option or one that can last longer with tighter pressure settings or high-impact tricks.

Bushing

The bushing is a soft urethane ring attached around the king pin to smooth the rotation and pivot of the board.

Trucks are your board’s axle. Your trucks will control the way you turn, ollie, grind, and are responsible for translating your movements into your skateboard’s movements. They are the middle-man between your deck and your wheels, and it is important to size them properly.

Track Width

To choose the best track for your finished skateboard, you need to know the size of the track that fits your deck. The width of the track corresponds directly to the width of the deck. If the width of the track is too narrow, it will become unstable, and if it is too wide, it will cause problems such as shoes and wheels coming into contact when pushing.

While skate decks are measured in inches, tracks are measured in different units depending on the brand, so it may be a little difficult to choose the best skateboard track for your setup.

Depending on the brand of the truck, some measure the width from the axle nut to the axle nut, while others measure only the width of the hanger. Ultimately, what you want is a track with an axle nut within 1/4 inch of the deck edge when it is attached to the deck. This means that the axle nut does not extend outward from the edge of the deck and does not extend more than 1/4 inch from the edge of the deck.
